About The Show
This is a fantastic opportunity for young performers to join the ensemble cast of ETT’s Autumn touring production of the sensational play, CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, co-produced with Curve and Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse.
This new revival of Tennessee Williams’ lyrical Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece is a blazing portrayal of what it takes to survive in a society where we’re all desperate to feel free. The children are the sons of Mae and Gooper – who join the Pollitt family as they meet to celebrate Big Daddy’s 65th birthday party, where shattering truths threaten to spiral out of control.
You will work with award-winning director Anthony Almeida, and a brilliant team of creatives and actors.
The play is a serious dramatic piece and does contain adult themes and sexual references. However the children will only feature in moments which are age appropriate. If you have any questions about the play please contact the Assistant Director, Jenny Baker – j.baker@curvetheatre.co.uk
What Are We Looking For?
ETT is looking for ten boys to play various roles. The boys should have a playing age of between 9 and 13 years old. The youngest ACTUAL age a child can be is 9 years old but they can be older than 13 years old.
Applicants from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged.
Two of the boys’ parts will have dialogue and will need to speak with a southern US accent. There will be support in rehearsals to learn how to do this.
The play will rehearse up to 3 sessions in Ipswich on the 7th, 8th and 9th October and perform at Ipswich from Tuesday the 12th – Saturday the 16th October 2021.

Two teams of five will share the children’s roles and will be allocated performances across the run. Applicants must be available from the beginning of rehearsals at New Wolsey Theatre on the 7th, 8th and 9th October 2021. Every effort will be made to limit rehearsal calls to out of school hours.
You don’t need to have any previous performance or drama experience but you will need to be enthusiastic about the opportunity and able to commit to all the rehearsals and the performances.

When Are Auditions and What Happens In Them?
Audition(s) will take place at NW2, the New Wolsey’s participation building. NW2 is located on our site on Civic Drive, Ipswich IP1 2AS – the building with the golden roof.
They will take place on 6th September between 5pm – 6:30pm.
You will need to arrive fifteen minutes before the start.
This will involve a group workshop led by Jenny Baker (Assistant Director of the production) and Sian Thomas (New Wolsey Creative Communities Producer) which includes games, drama exercises and looking at a small section of a scene. The process should be fun, regardless of whether you are cast or not. The workshop will give us a chance to get to know you and for you to get to know us!
What Happens Afterwards?
The producer Bella Rodrigues will be in touch to let you know whether we’d like to offer you a role.
If you are offered a role, your adult with parental responsibility will need to fill in a consent form and read the play so they know what is involved.
We will apply for a license for you to perform through your local council.
The Children’s Administrator, Denise Smith, denisesmith916@btinternet.com will be in touch with you to gather the necessary information for the license application.

As a parent, what will I be expected to do?
Firstly, to support your child. They will be learning the movement and dialogue so it would be great for you to listen and watch them at home.
Secondly, you need to be able to drop off and collect your child at the theatre on their allocated dates.
Two licensed chaperones will meet you who will then be responsible for your child whilst they are at the theatre.
