Kickstart your story with confidence! This workshop explores the art of compelling openings, offering guidance for new writers and fresh insights for those with a work in progress.

What makes a first page compelling? How much exposition is enough? (Or, for that matter, too much?) Should the opening scene be descriptive or have momentum…?

This workshop will explore the craft of narrative beginnings. Our day will include supportive tips to help newer writers overcome the anxiety of starting a project; and intermediate writers with a WIP will have an opportunity to refresh their current draft. Wolsey Writers one-day workshops are led by Katie Ward, an award-winning author from Suffolk. Every session (10:30am-3:45pm) includes a deep dive into our topic, tools and techniques to improve your creative practice, and dedicated time for your own writing or WIP.

It was brilliant – I can’t remember a better writing class.
