Embedding Inclusion and Access: A Training Series for Producers

The New Wolsey Theatre presents a programme of six online sessions designed for UK-based producers who want to develop their skills and understanding to make their practice more inclusive.

The aim of the sessions is to relieve the fear of “getting it wrong” and make inclusive practice more transparent by discussing the practical steps needed to better support D/deaf and disabled artists. There is a demand from D/deaf and disabled artists for producers who understand how to support them and their work. This programme responds to that demand by increasing the range of producers who have the knowledge and confidence to work inclusively.

The sessions will be delivered by staff from the Ramps on the Moon consortium who will share their experiences and pass on the learning they have gained in working to improve access and inclusivity in professional theatre.

Sessions will cover: working creatively with access tools (captioning, audio description, BSL), creating inclusive spaces (rehearsal rooms and auditions), budgeting and access to work applications, online/digital access, working with support workers, and disability equality training.

Who is it for?

This programme is free to attend. It is designed for both freelance producers and producers working within arts organisations and companies. Participating freelance producers will be paid an inclusive fee of £50 per session they attend. We are ideally looking for people who can commit to attending all six sessions. If for any reason you cannot attend a session, a recording will be sent to you. Freelance producers will only be paid for sessions attended live.

When are the sessions?

Sessions will be on Mondays, 5.30pm – 7pm on Zoom.

The dates are: 31st October, 7th and 14th November, week break, 28th November, 5th and 12th December 2022.
